Coming from a dancing background myself, I always wanted to try this kind of photo session. I have a big studio, but did not want the mess and having to clean up! So, one night, I took my studio outdoors. I had perfect conditions: high humidity, warm weather, almost no wind and the perfect dancer!!! Thank you Chris Stuewe for your perseverance in continuing to contact me about making this photo shoot happen! I used my canon Mark 111 camera with a 70-200. I used a mix of strobes and video lights and tested the “in camera” multiple exposure options. 9 multiple exposures did not turn out so great but I got great results with the 3 and 5 options! Here are the results of this fun “dancing with powder” photography session.

Dance School Photography- Photo de Danse, Ottawa, Orleans, Ontario
It’s dance school time again!!! For the next three weeks, we will be busy photographing dance schools around the Orleans area. We rented office space at 1981 St-Joseph Boulevard ( next to Cora’s and Royal Oak) so we can have a dedicated studio and set-up for dance photos. Have a look at a few examples from last years set up.
To view more photos from previous years, you can click on the links for these dance schools below!

Ottawa Dance Photographers – featuring Laura Jeffs
Here’s a fun photo session for this time of year. Dance school photography is just around the corner as dancers are getting ready for their end of year recital. Over the years, we take photos of many dance schools in the Ottawa, Orleans and Plantagenet area. I really love it when we get to do an hour photo session in the studio in a more artistic matter. Laura offered these photos to her mom as a gift for creating and making all her wonderful dance costumes. She was also our first ballerina brave enough to dance in the snow!…A true Canadian!!! Here are a few highlights of the photo session.

Kevin Howe – So You Think You Can Dance Canada
If you watch ” So you think you can dance Canada” on CTY, you already know that Kevin Howe, from Ottawa, Ontario, is in the top 22!
The star.com wrote : Kevin Howe, 21, Ottawa: It was good to see Kevin back after he just missed top 22 last year. He’s a very solid, masculine contemporary dancer with lovely lines, great transitions and an excellent flow of movement. “Kevin, welcome back, you are a man that is on a mission,” said Mary. “You are someone that is not taking no for an answer. You are pushing through every hurdle. You are ready for Season 4. I’m gonna give you a little wooooo hoooooooo!” And speaking of welcoming back, it’s nice to hear Mary scream again.
Last week he danced his first routine with Teya Wild and here is what the Montreal Gazette wrote about it: “North Van hip hop dancer Teya Wild glams up and joins powerhouse contemporary dancer Kevin Howe, from Ottawa, in a Stacey Tookey routine about a cheating fool and his attempt to reconcile with his lady. Fave judge Luther says it all, congratulating Tookey for finding that perfect balance which allowed Kevin’s commanding technique to shine while allowing Teya the chance to dig deep emotionally and keep the technique to a minimum. A routine voters should remember.”
We wish him good luck and don’t forget to VOTE,VOTE,VOTE for KEVIN HOWE !!!
Here is a little trip down memory lane when we photographed Kevin every year with Leeming Danceworks in Orleans, Ontario.

1st Dance Class – Editorial Photography
To discover through the eyes of a child… I often wish I could be there again! First steps, first words, first birthday, first fall, first everything. Imagine being in a dance class for the very first time and they tell you mommy or daddy can’t stay because it’s for kids only! As a photographer first, but also, a dance teacher since I was 15 years old, I have been ” Miss Julie – their first dance teacher” many times. It is a privilege and an honor to influence and help a child grow..in every sense of the word. I asked Joelle to come to my dance class and take a few photos so I could remember forever how great it feels like to make a difference 🙂
