Here is a look at a commercial job we did for Ottawa Classic Stairs.
We loved photographing these beautiful stairs and bannisters. It gave us the creative freedom to test different angles and come up with interesting ways to capture interior designs. The albums created with these images gave this company an excellent sales tool and showcased their exquisite craftmanship perfectly. The books were printed in Italy by Graphi and looked absolutely stunning.
Here is what Guy Martin wrote after this commercial session; ” Some people see stairs as a way to get from one level to another. However, through the lens, I discovered intricate lines converging to create shapes and forms that transform a staircase into a true piece of ART.”
Commercial and interior photography assignements can be really fun and creatively stimulating. When we photograph people, technical skills and lighting are important, but the interaction with our client is the key to a great image. It is our job as a photographer to make the client look and feel comfortable in front of the lens to produce an image that they will love. When we do commercial photography… the challenge is in the lighting, the composition and the choice of lens. Photographing interiors is not easy. Factors to consider are: the time of day, extra lighting (flashes in hidden spaces to brighten up dark areas or to add texture), the choice of lens (a 200 mm for details, big open spaces with a 50 mm , smaller spaces with a wide angle), bracket exposure, height of the camera, vertical and horizontal lines, post processing, etc. Taking the time to do it right is the key. We continue to search for new and innovative ways to photograph our business and corporate clientele. When we photograph criminal lawyer Paul Lewandowski and his team, we always know we will create great ” out of the box” artistic images. Paul always has creative ideas and our job is to come up with cool angles, give ideas and reproduce his vision… This time, we ended up in the Diefenbunker museum tunnel at 3911 Carp Rd in Ottawa…..to then finish our photography session on the Roof Top of a downtown Ottawa hotel. The heavy rain did not stop us from achieving our goal…and Paul was not going to stop until the job was done.
